Lumiere

The best nights of my life...

Ketzakoatl

This will be an image feared across the globe. An image of the greatest metal band to ever live: Ketzakoatl. I thought up the name a while ago, and decided to make an image for the band. I always dream of being in an awesome metal band, and this is just one step closer for me. It's just a live-traced black and white guitar with black images put over it.

NUKE JUICE!!!

This image is full of my own inside jokes and is kind of a tribute to all those awful energy drinks i sometimes live off. That nuclear explosion is actually pulled from the cover of a Megadeth album (Greatest Hits: Back to the Start), automatically making this one of the best things ever created. it was just a bunch of shapes meant to look 3d. I think i accomplished a lot with this first Illustrator job.

Opeth

The most talented man in music, Mikael Akerfeldt, and his band Opeth in the mysterious woods of some Norwegian country. A cool image of one of the most talented bands of all time. All I did was steal the image, invert it in photoshop, live trace it in Illustrator and add the text.

The Greatest Thrash Metal Band of All Time Gets the Illustrator Treatement

Well, these guys deserve as much. They have written some of the greatest metal albums of all time, and were an absolute fit for a kick-ass image to end the year. I took 6 images, one for the background, four of the band and one of their logo, leveled them in Photoshop, went into illustrator and live traced them, brought them back into PS, deleted the background and cropped the images, saved them as GIF files, and then added them one by one. Notice that one handle is touching each member of the band!

Slipknot

I did this one just for fun. See my previous Albert Einstein post to see how i did this. I did exactly the same thing.

Albert Einstein

I used to play a trading card game called Magic: The Gathering. Recently, my math teacher gave us an extra credit assignment to create a trading card for a legendary mathematician. So, I thought "I'll make a Magic Card!". I looked up on the internet a magic card (one actually made of Spartan 117), then erased all the type with the clone stamp tool. I replaced the image of Master Chief with one of Albert, and wrote in new type. He's actually a pretty damn good card!

Magazine Cover

I created a copy of a magazine cover for this assignment. I had to be able to spec the size of type and be able to reproduce this cover with just images on the internet. This was simple, but it looks just like the real cover.

Three Halves of a Whole

This is my newest piece of work: I call it "Three Halves of a Whole". I've submitted this to the Scholastic Art competition in Boston. I used a picture of just my head, posterized it to a level of 3, then added the red face with difference and the white head with overlay. I love this!

Examples of Art

This was a homework assignment that was meant to help me learn about the different elements of art. I was supposed to find examples of art in the real world, and this is what I came up with. I must say that Kerry King's V makes me really happy.

Open House Poster

This was an extra credit assignment that I created to advertise the annual Open House. I learned how to make 3D letters and to NOT use contrasting colors on top of each other. I think it looks pretty good, myself.

Gradients

I created two gradient projects with just simple images. I created one with warm colors and another with cool colors, just because it looked really cool both ways. I learned how to create custom gradients, plenty about opacity and a little about lighting with this project.

Brain Project

For this assignment we were supposed to take 50 images that described us and have them come bursting out of our head. Fun! I am really proud of this one. I just wish that I could have better deleted the white border that surrounds my bust.

Star Wars Face

I posterized my face to a level of two and I pasted a Star Wars Episode III poster behind my head. I then inverted the poster. I like this a lot.

This was a duplication of an ad i cut out of the newspaper. It was the first image i created using InDesign, a program i am still not completely comfortable with yet. I got all the fonts exactly right, but the size of the entire image itself was off. I'll improve this with my spare time. And no, the original image did not contain Mick Thompson and his lovely BC Rich Warlock.

Okay...

Alright, so this is my blog for graphic design 1. I'll submit my stuff, projects and photos every week or so. This should be interesting.
